Tokoya Barber & Shop was established in 2015 by award-winning barber Kaisei Sarai, whose vision was to blend traditional Japanese barbering techniques with world-class grooming service. Under the leadership, Tokoya quickly earned a stellar reputation as one of Auckland’s premier barbershops—respected for its clean aesthetic, exceptional craftsmanship, and family-friendly service.
In recent years, Tokoya has entered an exciting new chapter under the direction & leadership of Kaori Sasaki and Roshan Dsouza. Together, they continue to uphold the Tokoya legacy while expanding its reach and offerings.
The word “Tokoya” (床屋) is Japanese for “barbershop”, a space where grooming is treated not just as routine, but as a refined ritual. At Tokoya, we embody that meaning in everything we do—precision cuts, attention to detail, and respect for our clients.

Crafted with elegance and cultural depth, the Tokoya Barber & Shop logo—trademarked by the talented artist Anna Doria—is a visual symphony that bridges timeless tradition and modern refinement. The name Tokoya itself, a Japanese term for “barber,” nods to the artisanal heritage and meticulous grooming practices of East Asia, suggesting a space where craftsmanship and ritual intertwine.
Anna Doria’s artistic signature is evident in every curve and contour of the design. The logo features a harmonious blend of minimalist geometry and vintage barbering motifs stylized with sleek, contemporary lines. Her use of bold yet balanced typography gives the brand a confident voice, while subtle flourishes echoes Japanese calligraphy and woodblock aesthetics, adding a sense of refined authenticity.
